The move to the new site was made for several reasons:

There are three different poster product: frontlit, backlit and static cling. All three types of posters are well suited for retail advertising.

"Posters used for both retail and point-of-purchase advertising are great tools for drawing customers into your store and for maximizing the amount of merchandise they purchase," Pingree said.

The three product lines have distinct differences:

Chamber helps businesses make social media connections
'Face2face' interface shares information

These days, just about everyone is on Facebook or Twitter, including many local businesses that are using social media to connect and communicate with potential customers.

For some of those businesses, navigating social media just got easier, thanks to the face2face interface developed by Salem Chamber of Commerce.

Integrating technology found on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn, face2face enables local businesses to widely broadcast information without extra legwork, said Kyle Sexton, face2face developer and the chamber's director of business development.

"The chamber has done all the heavy lifting on the back end," he said.

It works like this: When members post event listings and news releases on face2face, that information also is relayed via the Chamber's own Facebook and Twitter feeds, which have hundreds of followers.

Businesses using face2face also are showing up higher in Google searches, said Sexton.

South Salem resident David Winstead, of Wealth Strategies NW, said he is using face2face to build brand recognition and launch his new business venture.

"It's a good tool — especially if you are a start-up business and don't have a lot of resources for advertising," he said. "It's an easy way to market your business — the only cost associated is your time."

Mike Pingree, owner of Pinson Signs, which opened in April 2009, agrees.

"I'm in control, period," Pingree said. "I write exactly what I want, how I want it presented, I do it myself and it shows up immediately. They [the chamber] put it on Twitter, Facebook. It's the full multimedia experience."

In addition to being a time-saver in terms of navigating social media, Pingree said that it's proved helpful in building relationships and raising visibility.

"It's all about reaching out to people and building relationships. When you have a new business, people want to build trust before they spend money with you … it's all about building rapport with people you don't know," he said.

Local businesses aren't the only ones enamored of the new service — chambers nationwide are taking notice.Last spring face2face was featured in a Wall Street Journal article on innovative ways that chambers are serving small businesses in a down economy."Since then we've been fielding calls from chambers across the country," Sexton said.

Salem, OR - 6/09/2010 - PinsonSigns.com™ owner Michael Pingree announced today the results of a quick survey of the local sign industry. What he found was a great disparity in prices involving outdoor full color vinyl banners.

"I was quite shocked at the price differences found locally," Pingree said.

We contacted five different sign providers in the Salem area; two locally owned independent shops, two locally owned franchise shops and one big-box office supply store. The prices quoted were for a 4'x8' outdoor full color vinyl banner. The prices were obtained either from their website or from a phone price quote.

All banners are of the same general quality and outdoor durability. All include hemming and grommets.

Clearly, it is wise for sign buyers to shop around before placing their next banner order.
